HOW TO RID COCKROACHES IN ALASKA ORGANICALLY
Vacuuming- Instead of using chemicals, traps and vacuuming are used to get rid of cockroaches. Meaning, we need to physically remove the cockroaches.
Temperature- Another option, if possible, is to use extreme heat. Either extreme cold or extreme heat. (Similar to getting rid of bedbugs)Hot tap water or steam units can be used to kill cockroaches. These options can only be used in very limited situations.
Essential Oils- There are essential oils that can be used. They are considered “minimum risk pesticides” They are used in a spray (no residual action) These are plant based and are marketed as “Green” or “Organic” insecticides.
Other possibilities, boric acid dust or bait formulations. These can be very effective and long lasting. Diatomaceous earth andsilica aerogel are other options.
Cockroach baits, gels and bait stations are used when clients want to control the placement so the potential for exposure can be low for humans and their pets.
COCKROACH Infestations in your attics, crawlspaces and outdoors
Inspect- Inspection and monitoring of premises is key to deciding which method to use to get rid of cockroaches.
Stop cockroaches from entering your home by eliminating as many harborage areas around your home as possible.
Cockroaches are known to be attracted to pet food and to bird seed. Try to reduce or eliminate these attractions as much as possible.
Exclusion Work- Other ways to keep cockroaches out of your home is to take a tour around your property. Use caulking and screens to close any areas that cockroaches could get into your home or establishment.
Trapping- Cockroaches (w/exception of German Cockroaches) have slow production rates. Trapping and removing them havea much greater impact than trying to get rid of fleas which have fast production rates.
Natural Pest Control- If cockroaches get into your attics and crawl spaces the best way to get rid of them is to try one of the following:Bait formulations, boric acid or diatomaceous earth. These are long lasting treatments. ULV applications of pyrethrins may also be effective.
